The ease of use is a great plus of the Britrail pass. On some long distance routes we reserved seats ( essential to do and no extra cost to do). We would have found it useful to be able to reserve seats before we left Australia, but this was not possible. Could we suggest that it would be good if this could become possible in the future? We travelled from London to Durham two days after we arrived in UK and there were no seats available to reserve. Thus we had to stand all the way. (Though a very kind passenger did give up his seat for one of us). We were surprised there are not sufficient seats for all passengers travelling. It would also be useful to be able to book through luggage on long distance routes. We enjoyed the great variety of trains across England - from small one carriage l,coal trains to the high speed ones on the long routes.

"This is the third time I have used a flexi pass on my UK visits, I just love them as I cannot be bothered to orgainize booking of my journeys and I always find I can get on to premium train service, and go where I like."

I have found that the train stations are well manned with helpful staff, this adds to my enjoyment of travelling around England. As I never have the help of an I pad or smart phone I need to find information the old fashioned way. It still works out fine for me, and I also enjoy no plan days of just getting on and off train services exploring small towns, and villages. There is only one thing I find frustrating about the pass, which is that you cannot buy 6 days worth of travel, as I tend to go for short trips the 4 days is just too little and really it can be hard to use up all 8 days. So if I could buy a 6 day pass that would be perfect for me.

This is the third Flexi Pass I have used over the years, and these are tips for new users: 1. To reserve a seat, thus ensuring you can travel on the train you want, you need to do so the day before (cannot be done on the day of travel) 2. The different train lines have varying levels of luxury / attentiveness, so each experience will be different 3. Go somewhere for the day - just because you can

"Very affordable way to travel around England"

Value for money: 5/5
Ease of use: 3/5
Suitability: 3/5

The pass was great value for money and much cheaper than buying tickets in the UK. However, many station staff had no knowledge of the pass which made travel a challenge at times. Also, it was not easy to make advance reservations once in country.
