Use the JR Pass Rail Map to Design your own Adventure

Although it is only the size of Germany, the myriad of attractions in Japan can make deciding on a travel itinerary difficult. Japan is a country of contrasting landscapes, with its southern islands on a similar latitude as the Bahamas, whilst the northern island of Hokkaido is known for its snowy mountain peaks and exceptional skiing conditions.

Whilst it's impossible to take in all the varied natural attractions, niche cultures, and iconic cities of Japan in just one trip, the JR Pass lets you cover a lot of ground by providing you with access to the legendary bullet train (Shinkansen) network which runs the length of the main island of Honshu, as well as the southern island of Kyushu. Capable of reaching up to 320 km/h, Shinkansen make travelling across the country fast and convenient. The longest rail line, the Tohoku Shinkansen covers 674 km between Tokyo and the northern city of Aomori, with a trip along the full distance of the line taking a little over three hours, depending on the class of train you take.

Travel cross country in record time aboard the Shinkansen

The Japan Rail Map makes it easy to plan your travel itinerary and identify which routes are covered by the Rail Pass and provide the most convenient access to your desired destination. Whether you choose to explore the delights of one of Japan's eight distinct regions in detail or want to visit a few iconic sights around the country such as the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, The Golden Pavillion, and Mount Fuji, the JR Pass allows you to design an itinerary that suits your unique travel style.
