When we arrived at the station at Cusco we were greeted with welcome drinks and a group of traditional dancers performing, as our luggage was loaded onto the train. We were then escorted to our rooms & then to the lounge where all the staff were introduced & we were told of the days activities. I will not go into all the details but I just wanted to let you & your staff know that the experience was exceptional. The staff were all very welcoming & I was impressed that by the end of the first day they knew us by our names. The food was amazing, beautifully presented & at each meal our waiter explained the dishes in detail, as many incorporated local ingredients. Afternoon tea served each day & canapes before extraordinary amount of food as well as local wines & of course Pisco. We had a twin room with ensuite, (two single beds) which converted to seats during the day. This was fine for us. We did see some of the double rooms & they were very spacious. It is a good idea to pack smaller bags for the journey, extra bags can be stored in the luggage compartment. There was also a nurse on board for any emergencies. All the off train excursions we great & the guides were well informed and very proud of their Peruvian culture. We spent a lot of time in the open air carriage at the back of the train for the best views of the countryside, mountains & the train as it wound its way around the bends. Sunrise on Lake Titicaca was spectacular, as was all the country we travelled through. We met up with some lovely people (total of 48 passengers) from honeymooners to people our own age & older. On disembarking at Arequipa all the staff lined up on the platform and clapped us as we walked off the train. I felt it should have been us clapping them! In all, an amazing adventure & even though quite expensive, well worth the money. I would thoroughly recommend this trip to anyone considering this journey.
