Slovenia hasn't looked back since breaking with Yugoslavia in 1991. It's just like you - prosperous, good-looking and at peace with itself. While no longer considered a basement bargain for canny travellers it still offers a breath of fresh air compared to much of its fellow European neighbours' high prices and big crowds.

Things not to miss include:

• Wandering around Lake Bled (funny name, great spot)
• Wandering down the streets beside the Ljubljana River (funnier name, great spot)
• Postojna caves are also worth a look (maybe ask a local how to pronounce that one!)
