Belgians are a cunning bunch. While they know their country is one of Europe's true treasures, they're not all that keen for the rest of the world to know. Not that they're not warm and welcoming. Walk into one of their famous beer halls and you'll probably end up walking out a few hours later with a bunch of new friends and a belly full of some of the world's best beer. And should you have any room left in there you may like to fill it with some of the world's finest chocolate before heading off (somewhat wobbly legged) to explore Europe's unsung hero. Rail Passes for Belguim are called Benelux. Belguim, Netherlands and Luxembourg all fall into the pass called Benelux.

Not to be missed are:

• Belgium Waffles which are, without the slightest bit of doubt, the world's very best
• 648 trillion (or thereabouts) chocolate shops selling chocolate that is so 'moreish' it could very quickly have you in the running for next year's Biggest Loser
• Belgium beer!
