The pass is so convenient and saves a considerable amount of money. You don't have to worry about purchasing a ticket every time you want to travel and the number of days you purchase enables you to sight see any day you wish you are not locked into a tight itinerary - gives travel freedom. My travel tip is always remember to book your seat on your chosen train a couple of hours or a day before once you have decided your next days activities. Although you can take pot luck in finding a seat I prefer to know that I have a definite seat. I have sat in the passage way on occasion but that's not the end of the world either.

even though in a country where English is not the dominant language, the train system ran as smoothly as if it was. Trains train on time, like clock work and best of all, it was not complicated and user friendly...had no hassles at all. The German rail pass was a great way to avoid queues and the seat reservation made it even more stress free. Nice to rely on public transport that delivered!!

The range of rail passes available make it so easy to choose one to suit your own circumstances. We knew where we would be travelling and on what days so bought a 4 day pass, it was accepted with no problem by train staff and in our case probably saved us more than 70% on our train travel costs.

I’ve travelled to many places around the world, including to Europe a few times, but had never travelled via train before. I did most of my travel in Germany and the experience was sensational. Trains ran at very regular intervals - depending on destination, I literally turned up to the station and just waited for the next train, which was usually within 20 minutes or so; Trains arrived & departed on time (almost to the second!); No checking luggage in, or waiting at a carousel to pick up at the other end; Very, very comfortable seating arrangements; The scenery – you see a lot more than if you were on a plane, or even in a car where you’re either driving or navigating; Train stations were invariably located in the middle of the city; Timetables were easy to follow, but if you needed it each station had a service desk dedicated to helping passengers (excellent service too); Overall, I cannot recommend the train travel experience highly enough

We enjoyed the facilities and use of the German train system, the trains ran absolutely on time. I would have appreciated seating facing the front of the train, we found that our first class tickets meant travelling backwards all of the time, my husband was happy with this, it made me feel a little travel nausea.

A pass that is superb value for money, allowing you to travel cheaply, and quickly, throughout Germany. If you were only covering small distances and/or know exactly what train you will catch, you can probably get better value from Deutsche Bahn's website. But this pass lets you travel when and where you want, meaning -- as I did -- you can hop off at any town and have a look around before catching the next train.

On a saturday evening in May last year I boarded the regional train from Stuttgart to Frankfurt when just before the train was due to depart hundreds and hundreds of football fans jumped on the train. They were in a great mood and were singing and dancing throughout the whole train. Sure, some of them may have had a few too many celebratory beers at the stadium after Stuttgart's win but everything was in great humour and above board. It was great to see so many people happy and united. Especially impressive was that noone was agressive or angry. Nearly everyone on board the train (including kids and old folks) got swepped up in the euphoria and joined the singing and dancing through the train from one end to the other. As the stops went by the train got emptier and emptier, however the memory will be a long lasting one.

I was travelling from Cologne to Hamburg on a first class train with a 2nd class rail pass, BUSTED !. 2 ticket inspectors pulled my travel companion (Nick) and I aside and started to repremand us and were about to issue us with 2 x 100 EURO fines. Then one of the male ticket inspectors winked and smiled at me. I was a little confused about this so I smiled back. My friend Nick was a little confused but played along. The guards body language and tone of voice changed conciderably, and much to my suprise so did mine and Nicks. We ended up pretending to be a flamboyant and very open couple travelling through Germany on our way to Hamburg to meet "new people" on the Reeperbahn in Hamburg. The guards smiled, gave us big hugs and then kicked us off the train in the middle of nowhere, but atleast we didnt get the 100 euro fines. As the train departed and left us at the station we both laughed hysterically and never talked about it again.

I met my husband on my holidays to Australia. When it was his turn to visit me in my hometown of Cologne (Germany) he booked a flight to Frankfurt and jumped on the then IC train to Cologne. He is not a very good traveller and did not know that this is one of the most beautiful train journeys in Europe. So he sat on the train and looked out the window. But the window he stared out of was the one that looked out to the rock wall. About an hour into the journey a fellow traveller must have felt sorry for him and asked him why he was not looking out of the other window overlooking the Rheinvalley with all the castles. Well the rest is history. He fell in love with Germany and luckily me too. We have been back many times and yes we always look out the right side now when we travel from Frankfurt to Cologne Cheers Heike
