We bought this pass because we were arriving in Belgium, visiting friends in Netherlands and family in Germany. Having done those things we had three spare days. What to do? Because of our rail-pass, we decided to go to Luxembourg city, something we wouldn't have considered without the pass raising the possibility in our minds. A great decision: the trip from Cologne to Luxembourg was through wonderfully scenic valleys, and Luxembourg city itself was spectacular. This was our third pass purchase (but won't be our last!).
Tips; if possible, validate the pass before your first day of travel; if making a difficult (i.e. little time) connection, tell the conductor (one rang through to hold a train for us once!); look up the departure times for your route immediately
before and after your most preferred departure times so you know your options if circumstances change; check full route details to obtain details of transfers and the name(s) of the station(s) immediately prior to where you intend to alight.
