Backpacking on my own in Europe was an interesing experience. I was 21 and ready for adventure. As traveling on my own I had only myeslf to trust for directions and where to go so my all my senses were alive. I got on the train in Berlin and was surprised to see that they had small compartments to seat 4-6 passengers which is generally unlike our seating. I found myself seated with a young guy from Prague who could not speak much english so we endeavoured to chat for what could have been a few hours.... I remember we may have even discussed Michael Jackson??!! I guess that is a universal name... He asked if I would stay with him and his sister in Prague but I had heard that when you arrive in Prague there are many people there offering backpacker places to stay so I decided against his offer. I was still quite wary of who I would go alone, anywhere, with. Finally arrived in Prague and to my horror it was NOT like arriving in Airlie Beach! But lthere were lots of old men offering bed sitters. Luckily I overheard 3 American gilrs being offered a place for 4 so I quickly befriended them and had a fun week with them in Prague. Trains offer a unique laid back experience where you can meet locals and see the country side....
